Changing Districts? Here’s How to Retain Your ATPE Membership Benefits

It is back-to-school time once again, which means it’s also time to make sure you are still an ATPE member, especially if you have changed school districts.

If you used payroll deduction in your previous district to pay your dues, your payroll deduction will not carry over to your new district. (Remember: Your payroll deduction authorization is between you and your school district.) If you wish to continue paying your dues via payroll deduction in your new district, you will need to download, print, and complete a new paper membership application. If you would like to start paying your dues via credit card or bank draft, you may log in to your ATPE membership account and complete the appropriate membership change form.

It is imperative this be done as soon as possible. If you do not establish membership in your new district by Sept. 30, you will face a 30-day wait before your eligibility for employment rights defense protection begins.* Plus, you don’t want to lose access to ATPE’s other valuable benefits, including up to $8 million in professional liability insurance, subject to policy limits*; an exclusive menu of more than 25 services and discounts; 24/7 access to the ATPE Professional Learning Portal; and professional advocacy at the Texas State Capitol and in Washington, D.C.

When you submit a membership change form, you must submit your account information for changes to be processed and take effect. If we don't receive this information via the form, we will need to contact you for this information, and you will experience additional delay in your 2023-24 membership.

When completing your new application, be sure to consider supporting your new local unit by paying local unit dues, if applicable. ATPE local units provide a local presence for the association in school districts across the state, holding special events for local educators and sometimes engaging in school board advocacy. You may also consider donating to the ATPE Political Action Committee (ATPE-PAC) to help support public education-friendly candidates and officeholders. Also, perhaps you want to meet people in your new district by checking the box to learn more about being an ATPE volunteer!

Please be advised that 2023-24 Professional, Associate, and Administrator memberships will not be accepted after Jan. 31, 2024.**

Completed applications may be submitted either through an authorized ATPE representative or by mailing to:
Association of Texas Professional Educators
305 E. Huntland Dr., Ste. 300
Austin, TX 78752
