ATPE Encourages Leaders to Postpone or Cancel Meetings, Social Events

With the emergence of COVID-19 throughout the country, many people and organizations are taking precautions to mitigate the spread of the virus. Among those include the canceling of large gatherings and meetings.

With that in mind and in line with CDC recommendations, ATPE encourages leaders do their part by postponing or canceling meetings and social events originally scheduled during the next eight weeks. To that end, we will be moving our April 18 state committee meetings online. If you are a committee member, look for further information later this week.

We realize that many local units have planned to hold meetings during this time to elect officers. As a reminder, the standard ATPE bylaws template adopted by most local units and regions allows for online elections. Please refer to your bylaws for specific requirements for your organization, and contact your regional membership specialist for assistance in setting up an online election. (Please remember, however, that while the standard ATPE bylaws templates allows for online elections, it does not allow for online votes on bylaws amendments.)

In addition, ATPE is ready to support you should you wish to hold an online meeting using videoconferencing. Please contact your regional membership specialist to discuss options.

The most important thing to consider during this time is your safety and the safety of our members. We are here to help you navigate this time and offer any assistance we can.
