Did you know? January is also National Mentoring Month!

Introduced in 2002 by MENTOR National and the Harvard School of Public Health, National Mentoring Month puts a spotlight on the need for mentors and the idea that everyone—from individuals to businesses, to schools and government agencies—can work together to increase the number of mentors for our nation’s youth.

According to MENTOR, there are several dates throughout January that commemorate the month and are celebrated nationwide. Mark your calendars so you can join in (there’s even downloadable graphics!):

  • January 7, I Am a Mentor Day: A day for volunteer mentors to celebrate their role and reflect on the ways mentees have enhanced their world.
  • January 17, International Mentoring Day: In honor of Muhammad Ali’s birthday, join the international conversation on social media by using hashtags #MentoringDay and #MentoringMonth in your posts.
  • January 18, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service: A day to share in the inspirational words of Dr. MLK, Jr. and elevate the spirit of service through volunteerism.
  • January 27–29, National Mentoring Summit (Virtual): Learn more here.
  • January 29, #ThankYourMentor Day
