Happy School Board Recognition Month! Take time this month to celebrate your local school board and educate those around you about the vital role school boards play in our public schools and communities at large.

In Texas, independent school districts are overseen by school boards, who are elected by the citizens of their communities. From the Texas Education Agency, school boards oversee the management of the district and ensure the superintendent implements and monitors district operations. The trustees are also required to receive training in the laws and rules of the state education systems.

More poetically, your school board is an essential link between the people in the community and the educators and students across the district, safeguarding the belief that students should receive the best education possible. For more information about Texas school boards, check out this article and this video and explainer from the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB).

Additionally, each year, TASB creates a School Board Recognition Month planning kit for districts to use throughout the month to honor their local trustees. Click here to find out more.

And thank you, school board members, for all you do!
