Meet October’s Volunteer of the Month, Roya Dinbali

Did you hear the news? We’ve brought back our Volunteer of the Month recognition program for the second year in a row! As a reminder, for this program, we choose one member each month who has gone above and beyond the call of duty in their commitment to ATPE and public education. We look for volunteers who exhibit outstanding leadership and tireless efforts, and we’re relying on YOU for nominees.
Meet October’s Volunteer of the Month, Roya Dinbali of Nacogdoches ATPE!
What is your job title? Where do you work? How long have you been in this role?
I teach forensic science at Nacogdoches High School. This is my seventh year teaching, fifth year at Nac High School, and third year teaching forensic science.
How long have you been an ATPE member? Why did you choose ATPE?
I have been a member for four years. My mentor teacher, Kathy Haselden, told me to join an organization and ATPE was the best, so I joined.
What is your favorite part of your job? Least favorite?
My favorite part: I love my KIDS! My least favorite part: I hate, I hate, I hate grading papers!
What advice would you give to a new educator coming into your position?
Have fun with your kids, go above just teaching the TEKS, teach the kids to be good people, and document EVERYTHING!
What is the most important thing Texas educators can do for their profession?
Elect officials who not only know about the educational system but will make a difference and will work hard to make that change. Our educational system is horrible, and every year, I feel it’s getting worse. We are NOT holding our students responsible, and we are caving into TEA/the government when they are making NO sense.
Share your favorite moment as an educator.
I love when my students come back after graduation and thank me or even keep in touch with me after graduation—it shows that I did make a difference in their lives.
