ATPE's governmental relations team:

  • Supported legislation that will add $768 million to the retired educator healthcare fund and $1.5 billion in new funds for public education
  • Supported reducing high-stakes testing by eliminating the STAAR writing exam and reducing the time spent on testing
  • Prevented multiple efforts to divert public school funds to private school vouchers and home schools
  • Blocked efforts to eliminate the state minimum salary schedule for teachers
  • Defended educators’ right to join professional associations and use payroll deduction

These are just a few of the many issues ATPE addressed during the session. To learn more and find out how you can stay involved, read our legislative website, TeachtheVote.org. Be sure to sign up for the email blog notifications that will keep you up to date on all the important legislative news!
