Lobbyist
The largest professional association for public school employees in Texas seeks a dynamic individual to join our Governmental Relations team and support key advocacy objectives for the association. The Lobbyist must be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities. The Lobbyist will report directly to the Governmental Relations Director.
ATPE seeks an individual who is enthusiastic about public education and will be dedicated to supporting our members. They should have the ability to represent ATPE’s philosophy in all aspects of work assignments. To be considered, a candidate must have excellent analytical and critical thinking skills and be able to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing to varied audiences. Knowledge of the Texas legislative process is required. Prior lobbying or legislative staff experience preferred. The ideal candidate has experience and/or relationships with one or more of the following: public education policy, the state appropriations process, public pensions (particularly the Teacher Retirement System), the Senate Education Committee, Senate Finance Committee and/or House Appropriations Committee. Campaign experience will also be valued.
The successful candidate should be able to operate most standard office equipment; be proficient in Microsoft Office products; and have experience using Internet browsers, teleconferencing tools, and databases. Experience with legislative tracking services such as Telicon or USLege preferred. A bachelor’s degree in communication, public relations, political science, or a related field or commensurate work experience is required. The position requires the employee to be located in the greater Austin metro and work in a hybrid environment within the state of Texas. There will be up to 15% travel, with 75% consisting of overnight stays.
