ATPE Summit Announcement & Official Notice of the 2020 House of Delegates Meeting

Below is a special announcement from 2019-20 ATPE State President Tonja Gray, regarding the 2020 ATPE Summit. You may watch a video of her announcement here. An official announcement follows Tonja’s letter. ATPE members can also join Tonja during her next quarterly call on May 21. Click here for full details.

My fellow ATPE members,

I want to let you know that your ATPE Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to hold the 2020 ATPE Summit as a virtual event. Previously scheduled for July 9–11, we will now meet virtually July 6–10.

This decision was the results of weeks of careful consideration and deliberation. A variety of paths forward were considered, but as we balanced current governmental restrictions surrounding large events, the unpredictability of restrictions in July, and, most importantly, concern for our attendees, we determined a virtual conference was our best solution for 2020. We will not charge a registration fee to participate in the virtual summit.

A virtual ATPE Summit, carefully planned in coordination with experienced vendors and in consultation with professional parliamentarians, allows us to continue our association’s important work uninterrupted. The House of Delegates will conduct its business and elect new state officers. We will provide professional learning and leadership training. And we will celebrate not only the amazing accomplishments of our award winners but also commemorate all that ATPE has accomplished in the past 40 years.

What we won’t have: the special connections and moments only found in late-night conversations at a conference and the hugs and reunions in the hallway. My heart aches at the loss of those. It is one more special moment lost to us during this time, along with our end-of-year celebrations with our students, proms, and graduations.

But, as the state’s largest community of educators has proven time and again over the past few weeks, a pandemic cannot stop us from fulfilling our mission. The circumstances are not ideal, but we are going to have a fantastic, historic, can’t-miss ATPE Summit, filled with surprises and new opportunities to engage with the association.

Look for more details in the days and weeks to come, and I look forward to seeing you online at the 2020 ATPE Summit.

Sincerely,
Tonja Gray
ATPE State President
