Meet ATPE's 2019-20 State Officers

ATPE members gathered July 18 at the ATPE Summit in Houston to elect a new slate of officers for the 2019-20 year.

These officers (shown above) start their terms Aug. 1. Your 2019-20 state officers are:

President Tonja Gray is a 31-year education veteran from Region 14. A 26-year ATPE member, Gray is a K-5 Literacy Success teacher in Abilene ISD. Gray has served as ATPE’s state vice president, secretary, and treasurer.

Vice President Jimmy Lee is a substitute teacher in Millsap ISD in Region 8. He has been in education for 32 years and in ATPE for 21 years. Lee has served as ATPE’s state secretary and treasurer.

Secretary Karen Hames is an eighth-grade English/language arts and reading teacher in Lewisville ISD, Region 11, with 41 years of education experience and 22 years as an ATPE member. She previously served as ATPE’s 2018-19 state treasurer.

Treasurer Stacey Ward hails from Region 4, where she is a fifth-grade math and science teacher in Humble ISD. She has 22 years of education experience along with her 22 years as an ATPE member. She previously served as Region 4 director.

Past President Byron “Skip” Hildebrand from Region 20 is a retired math teacher with 34 years of experience in education and 27 years as an ATPE member.
