Recently, public education civics curriculum has been at the forefront of conversation among Texas legislators, school board trustees, educators, and parents. Did you know Texas educators like you can influence changes to the state curriculum standards with your feedback? As part of the State Board of Education’s (SBOE) process to review and revise the Social Studies Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), the Texas Education Agency (TEA) is surveying educators to help inform the recommendations to be developed by Social Studies TEKS review work groups. ATPE encourages members to be proactive in this important discussion by providing feedback regarding the current Social Studies TEKS through a TEA survey available until Dec. 10. Click here to access the survey.

Additionally, the SBOE is now accepting applications for educators to participate in the work groups mentioned above. People selected to serve on these work groups will be expected to meet virtually to start, but are expected to return face to face at some point. To apply for a spot in one of the work groups and for more information about the Social Studies TEKS review, please click here
