The Association of Texas Professional Educators (ATPE), Texas’ largest professional association for public school employees, seeks an experienced, energetic individual for its media relations specialist position.

Responsibilities include placing stories in the media, monitoring press requests and news coverage, writing press releases, assisting with public relations projects and special events, media training for volunteers, and some general administrative duties.

The position requires excellent oral and written communication skills, a bachelors’ degree in journalism, public relations, or related field, and 3 to 5 years’ experience.

Qualified candidates should also have knowledge of AP and/or Chicago style, an advanced knowledge of MS Office applications and experience with research and analysis techniques. Experience with content management systems and social media, and an interest in governmental relations and public education, is preferred.
