ATPE Communications Award

Recognizing excellence in local unit communications


The ATPE Communications Award recognizes outstanding local unit communications (i.e., newsletters, emails, blogs, social media). Checks for $250 are presented at the ATPE Summit to local units producing the top communication material in three categories:

  • Communications by a local unit with 1–200 members
  • Communications by a local unit with 201–500 members
  • Communications by a local unit with 501+ members
  1. Each entrant must submit a description of your communications and why you feel it’s effective; along with examples of the local unit’s communication efforts (e.g., copies of emails or newsletters sent to members, screenshots or printouts from the local unit’s social media pages, examples of blog posts) to comm@atpe.org. Please send several examples. Communication material entered must have been produced during the 2016-17 membership year.
  2. The following criteria are used in judging:
  • Design: Is the material designed so that it is readable, attractive, and professional? If photos are used, are they recognizable and representative? Is the copy flow logical? Do graphics have a purpose?
  • Content: How useful is the information presented? Is there a blend of state, region, and local district news? Is there information for all educators?
Entries are judged by professionals within the communications industry.
  1. Entries for the Communications Awards must be postmarked no later than May 1, 2017, if mailed, or received by midnight on the same date if faxed. Entries may also be emailed to comm@atpe.org.
  2. Awards will be presented at the ATPE Summit in Austin.
