We hope that by now you are a member of ATPE’s Legislative Alert Network (LAN), the free email service that helps you communicate directly with your legislators on the issues that matter most to Texas public educators. If not, what are you waiting for? Sign up today!
As an educator, you know that the Legislature controls almost every major aspect of your profession, including contract rights, the minimum salary schedule, certification standards and retirement issues. It’s critical that legislators hear from you when making decisions that could impact your livelihood. This point couldn’t be illustrated any better than by looking at how the current legislative session is unfolding. So far, the Legislature is already considering measures to increase class sizes, weaken due process rights and eliminate statutes that require districts to honor the minimum salary schedule—not to mention threatening massive cuts in public education funding that could cost you your job.
To combat these harmful proposals, ATPE depends on its greatest political asset: our members. To be effective in this regard, it is imperative that you not only sign up for the LAN but also take action when it’s asked of you. Each LAN Action Alert contains specific instructions for getting involved in an important decision: what is happening, when it is happening, whom you should contact, and even what you might want to say when you contact your elected officials. We strive to make the advocacy process as quick and easy as possible; we know busy educators don’t have a lot of spare time.
Being a LAN member also grants you access to the ATPE Advocacy Center, where you can contact your elected officials with just the touch of a button.
If we work together, we can ensure a bright future for public school educators and students. Get involved today.
