Foundation News
Established in 2000, the ATPE Foundation is dedicated to the advancement of public education through literacy initiatives, technology programs, and teacher recruitment and retention efforts. Individuals, ATPE local units and regions, organizations and companies are welcome to take tax-deductible donations. Learn more at www.atpefoundation.org.

Funds are available to purchase literacy resources
Through the Beth Ann Rogers Literacy Initiative, the ATPE Foundation provides $1,000 grants to Texas public school libraries to purchase literacy materials and modernize their resources. Five grants will be awarded during the 2009-10 school year. For additional information and to view the criteria, guidelines and application form, visit the ATPE Foundation Web site. Applications must be postmarked by Feb. 12, 2010.

Scholarship opportunities
The ATPE Foundation provides scholarships to college students in education programs. Established to honor the late Barbara Jordan, a Texas congresswoman and distinguished educator, the $1,500 Barbara Jordan Memorial Scholarship is awarded to up to six outstanding junior, senior and graduate students enrolled in educator preparation programs at predominantly ethnic-minority institutions.
The Fred Wiesner Educational Excellence Scholarship was established to honor the late Fred Wiesner, one of ATPE’s founding members. The program awards four $1,500 scholarships to outstanding college students enrolled in educator preparation programs. Three scholarships are awarded to undergraduate college students, and one scholarship will be awarded to a graduate student (if the number and quality of applicants allow).
