This CPE unit is worth two hours credit for certification renewal requirements of the Texas State Board for Educator Certification. As an educator taking this CPE unit, you are held to the honor system and will certify, once the unit is completed, that you have read all text and source material presented in order to achieve the maximum benefit of the training credit.

CHAPTER 21. EDUCATORS
Subchapter I. Duties and Benefits

  1. A contract between a school district and an educator must be for a of months' service.
      
  2. A school district must pay each classroom teacher, full-time , full-time counselor and full-time not less than the minimum monthly salary based on the employee’s level (years) of experience.
      
  3. A teacher, librarian, counselor or nurse shall advance one step on the minimum salary schedule for each year of experience until step is reached.
      
  4. For salary schedule placement, a district shall the teacher, librarian, counselor or nurse for each year of experience, without regard to whether the years are consecutive.
      
  5. Each classroom teacher is entitled to at least minutes per two week period for instructional preparation, including parent conferences, evaluating students’ work, and planning.
      
  6. Each classroom teacher or full-time is entitled to at least a 30 minute lunch period free from all duties with students.
      
  7. The duty-free lunch policy may require a teacher to supervise students one day per week in cases of a personnel shortage, extreme conditions or an unavoidable or unforeseen circumstance.
      
  8. A school district may not deny an educator a salary bonus or similar compensation for an absence from work due to an observance of a day.
      
  9. A school district board or employee may not directly or indirectly require or any teacher to join any group, club, committee, organization or association.
