Time Management

Plan Every Day
Each morning, review the day’s events and get organized. Make a list of all projects to be completed, then prioritize and complete each project in order.

Delegate Tasks
If available, delegate tasks to support personnel or volunteers. Check with your principal or other supervisors about the type of support personnel and volunteers available to you. There are a number of tasks that teacher’s aides and volunteers can assume to help you stay focused on teaching.

Personal Record-keeping
Keep a journal to reflect on the day’s events, evaluate your performance and log your comments for future use to help you detect and solve problems. Likewise, keeping detailed records may help you recognize successes that might otherwise be overlooked.

Professional Development Record-keeping
If you hold a standard certificate, it is imperative that you keep records of continuing professional education credit from approved providers for renewal purposes. Keep a folder to hold records of all professional development activities and other certification-related documentation.

Many school districts, professional associations (including ATPE) and region education service centers provide opportunities for workshops and other useful training. (See the Online CPE section of our Web site.)
