Welcome

Greetings, and welcome to our Region 6 ATPE Web page. I am Charles C. Lindsey II, your Region 6 president for 2011-12. I am currently a fifth-grade math teacher at J.L. Lyon Elementary in Magnolia ISD. I have been in education for 39 years, serving as a classroom teacher and a school administrator. I have been a member of ATPE for about 25 years and have served in various roles throughout those years.

I am very excited about the new year, and I am well aware of the challenges that we face. One of our biggest challenges as we begin the 2011-12 school year will be membership. Along with the recent layoffs in many school districts, we also lost many of our members. It will take all of our efforts to recruit new members so that we can continue to be one of the strong regions in ATPE. I want to also reach out to all local units in Region 6 by keeping good communication where it is already in place and improving in areas where communication has further opportunity for growth. At the region level, we will be looking for ways that we can help you at the local level and want to hear from you about new ideas or ways things can be done better.

Region 6 ATPE Member Kudos

• Region 6 ATPE Past President Judi Thomas, a second-grade teacher at Willis ISD's Turner Elementary, was named Region 6 ESC's 2010-11 CSCOPE Outstanding Elementary Teacher of the Year. Thomas was recognized as a master teacher whose feedback has helped refine the CSCOPE curriculum. She has taught in Willis ISD since 1985.

• Magnolia ATPE member Jessie Queck, of Bear branch Junior High School, was selected as a winner in the 2011 ATPE Daily Draw Contest.
