As the current school year wraps up, the next one looms in the distance. Now is the time for future, new, and veteran educators alike to think about their next teaching job and how to continue succeeding in their career. Hiring season this year may look and feel a little different, however. The COVID-19 pandemic has upended enrollment, district finances and staffing, and even hiring processes. We’ve put together a job resources roundup for you to consider as you start your hiring season journey.

To start, check out Edutopia’s article “How to Get a Teaching Job in 2021.” The article includes insights from administrators, instructional coaches, and career counselors from across the country and discusses the current job market, the need to put out more applications, how to highlight new skills, and more. Another good beginning step is to think not only about whether you’d be a good fit at a school but also whether that school is a good fit for you. The importance of “fit” is explored in another Edutopia article, “4 Things to Consider Before Interviewing for Your Next Teaching Job.”

In the “Resources” tab on the ATPE website, educators can find a list of education service center employment sites and other job search websites. And from the Summer 2017 issue of ATPE News, Regional Membership Specialist Cynthia Villalovos talks about all the ways you can prepare for a job search and interview in “How to Get the Job You Want”—from researching to what to bring to the interview. On his blog, our 2019 ATPE Summit keynote speaker Todd Nesloney offers advice and tips for people on both sides of the desk: those heading into the interview and those who are leading it.

Of course, one of the most nerve-wracking parts of any job search is the interview component. What questions will they ask me? What questions should I ask? Here’s some resources that might help:

Want some more help? ATPE members now have access to discounts with resume-writing service Let’s Eat, Grandma. And, as part of the 2021 Virtual ATPE Summit, ATPE will be hosting a job interview panel with Texas public school administrators on Monday, July 12. Visit atpesummit.org for more information.

Good luck out there, educators. Wherever you end up next year, we know the district and your students will be lucky to have you.
