The 79th Texas Legislature added student improvement to the state’s accountability rating system and adopted the Texas Projection Measure (TPM) as a way to track that improvement. Recent state accountability rating results have raised questions, however, as to whether the TPM is being used properly or if it is even a valid model for tracking improvement in student performance.

The State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) met Aug. 13 to consider proposed revisions to the Educators’ Code of Ethics. ATPE participated in several stakeholder meetings prior to the meeting to discuss the proposed revisions, which were drafted by Texas Education Agency staff members. Although those discussions helped improve the proposed revisions, several sections of the amendments remain problematic.
