Our Vision

The Association of Texas Professional Educators is the preeminent educator association in Texas and makes a positive difference in the lives of educators and in the lives of schoolchildren. As professionals, our members are committed to supporting quality public education and the professional rights and obligations of the education community. Working in partnership with parents, business, community and government, ATPE provides the programs and services that enable educators and schoolchildren to achieve their highest potential.

Who We Are

The Association of Texas Professional Educators is a member-owned, member-governed professional association. With more than 111,000 members, ATPE is the leading educators’ association in the state and the largest independent association for public school educators in the nation.

ATPE’s message, Supporting Your Freedom to Teach^SM, speaks to all educators who work to provide a quality education for our public school students. ATPE’s benefits program provides its members with protection, advocacy and resources, which allows them to focus less on outside-the-classroom influences and more on providing a quality education for our schoolchildren. More than 5,000 educators across Texas volunteer to serve as ATPE state, regional and local unit leaders. In addition, ATPE employs a full-time staff in its state office located in Austin. Staff members travel throughout the state to provide support and information to local units and volunteer leaders.

How ATPE is different from other educators’ organizations
ATPE’s unique philosophy distinguishes it from all other organizations. As a professional association, ATPE believes it takes everyone working together to improve Texas public schools. This collaborative philosophy is evident in our legislative program and a diverse membership that includes all types of public school employees. We welcome them all to join ATPE.
